Summary: Saint John's Preparatory School is a Catholic/Benedictine, co-educational, day and boarding International Baccalaureate college preparatory school for students in grades 6-12, with boarding options beginning in the 9th grade. Saint John's Prep is located within the 2,700 acres of woods and lakes of Saint John's University's campus in central Minnesota.

Summary: The Upper School students (grades 9-12, & PG) include day students from the area, along with 5 and 7-day boarding students from Minnesota, across the United States and from around the world.
The Residential Life Program is an integral factor that enhances the academic component of Saint John‘s Preparatory School by building a values-centered community that fosters mutual respect, healthy living, personal growth, multiculturalism, and independence.
The Residential Program is committed to providing an environment where opportunities and experiences for learning outside the classroom exist that challenge and support the development of students in becoming mature, responsible community members. The boarding program (available grades 9-12) brings young people together from around the world creating a vibrant community within the residence halls accentuated with cultural diversity and friendship.

Summary: All students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities while at Saint John’s Prep. Participation in either an athletic or non-athletic extracurricular activity enhances a student’s high school experience. Recreational facilities include: fitness center, swimming pools, basketball/volleyball courts, racquetball courts, indoor climbing wall, indoor track and indoor/outdoor tennis courts. The performing arts include band, choir, string ensemble, jazz band and individual
instruction in these areas. The theatre department performs two shows per year and is the only school that performs at the historic Paramount Theatre, the local professonal theatre.

Summary: Saint John's Prep offers a robust arts program; including visual arts and performing arts. Our theatre department performs two plays each year. The students also perform one-act plays to area elementary schools. These one-act plays are student written and student directed.

Sossina Haile, Ph.D. (Class of 1983) was named by Newsweek among twelve prominent individuals to watch in 2008 for her work on developing a new type of fuel cells, which produce energy through chemical reactions; their chief emission is pure water. Sosinna’s family fled Ethiopia during the coup in the mid-'70s, after soldiers arrested and nearly killed her historian father, then settled in rural Minnesota where Haile graduated from Prep and then MIT. She is a Professor of Materials Science and of Chemical Engineering at Cal Tech.
Jennifer Waldron, Ph.D. (Class of 1992) is an Assistant Professor and conducting research at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Rapids’ School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services. Her research involves investigating the extent and the consequences of hazing in the world of high school sports. Jennifer earned her Ph.D. at Michigan State University (2003), her M.A. at Bowling Green State University, Ohio (1999) and her B.A. from the University of St. Thomas , St. Paul (1996).

Saint John’s Prep began offering the International
Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Fall 2011, with
the 2013 graduating class the first eligible to earn a full
IB diploma. Saint John’s Prep (SJP) shares the facilities and campuses of both Saint John’s University and the
College of Saint Benedict; two of the top-rated Catholic
liberal arts colleges in the United States.
• Approximately 30-40 SJP students each semester take at least one college class at CSB or SJU and receive college credit for the courses.
• Six of our SJP classes receive college credit from
CSB/SJU. These classes are Spanish and German levels IV & AP, and Pre-Calculus. Students receive SJP high school credit and CSB/SJU college credit for these classes.
