Darrow School has been recognized as a thought leader in the field of curriculum design and innovation. Darrow is unique in that it places students at the center of their own education, finding new and innovative ways to challenge and support students at every turn. Our numerous elective offerings task students with designing a cohesive education in which the work they’ve done before always informs the work they do next. Our active curriculum, combined with our incorporation of project based learning, means that our students learn to solve real problems using skills they develop across disciplines.
Equally, if not more, importantly: Darrow students are tasked with becoming stewards of their environment. They are taught to not only understand their options, but to be involved in creating new options. In this way, they are prepared for a life of engaged citizenry, contributing to the improvement of the world around them.

Summary: Everything at Darrow begins with community. Our community is strong and distinctive because it is based on kindness, celebration of our incredible diversity, and active engagement in the work and joy of everyday life. Boarding students live in beautiful, Shaker-built homes and share rooms with one or two other students. Whether they’re hanging out in the common room, splitting up household chores, or working on homework together in their rooms, students develop a strong sense of responsibility for each other and their shared space. House parents are on duty and available to manage study halls, account for students, host activities, and troubleshoot challenges as they arise. Students participate in a number of clubs and activities throughout the week and on weekends. Faculty led excursions off-campus allow students to take full advantage of our location in the Berkshires. From outdoor activities like hiking and rock climbing to trips to the mall, restaurants, shops, and the movie theater, Darrow students have many opportunities to do the things they love and discover new passions.
