Summary: The academic program at Salem Academy is designed to prepare students for a lifetime of learning in a global society. Salem offers each student a dynamic college-preparatory education, along with the freedom and support to discover her passion.The Salem Academy program of study is also designed to meet the entrance requirements of the most selective colleges and universities. With a student/faculty ratio of 6:1, Salem affords a learning environment that is both stimulating and intimate. Both faculty and staff members know each student well and understand their responsibility to enable her to succeed in her studies. January Term, a unique feature of the Salem Academy experience, presents students with the opportunity to take courses on campus, to travel, and to intern with businesses and non-profits around the world. Indeed, Academy seniors ultimately benefit from six weeks of internship experience. Salem's new Center for Women in Entrepreneurship and Business is another way Academy students are equipped with the skills needed to succeed in the 21st century workplace. And the Academy's award-winning Robotics Team is helping to prepare our students for success in careers where bright young women are needed now more than ever: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics -- also known as STEM. (The Academy's Robotics Team finished in the top 3 percent out of 6,000 teams at a recent World Championship competition.)With AP exams results that surpass national and state scores, Academy students develop the maturity to handle the freedom college will bring, impressing professors around the world when they arrive on college campuses each fall.

Summary: Located in the heart of Winston-Salem, a thriving "City of Arts and Innovation" in the piedmont of North Carolina, Salem Academy's campus is situated adjacent to beautiful Old Salem, a restored 18th century Moravian village.The Academy's student body is currently comprised of young women from ten countries and nine states. The remarkable diversity that Salem’s boarding and day students bring to the school community enriches the entire community through shared experiences.Now more than ever, making lifelong connections with friends from around the world will be essential to students' success. Salem Academy opens the world to its students and guides them to learn about global issues in an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust, and fun. College requires many skills, and in our boarding program, students learn to be independent and to partner, to manage time well and to prioritize, to compromise and to stand tall, and to be empathetic and to laugh often. Summary: Whether she scores the winning goal in the soccer game, harmonizes with her fellow singers in the Glee Club, wins a scholastic art award, or earns her highest grade in her toughest class, the Salem girl will end each day with a sense of accomplishment -- and with the Academy family celebrating her triumphs with her. Fine arts classes are built into the curriculum day at Salem Academy. They also provide activities and venues after school.Visual ArtsVisual Arts students learn about the elements and principles of art through hands-on projects using various artistic media. Studio Art is offered at the beginner’s level, followed by course offerings of Advanced Studio Art and AP Portfolio Art. Student artwork is exhibited in the Elberson Fine Arts center biannually—in December and in May.TheatreThe Salem Academy theatre program includes a robust course offering that develops both aspiring actors and technicians. The theatre program produces two mainstage shows each year that are performed in the Drama Workshop of the Elberson Fine Arts Center. Students also present one-act plays or student-directed plays in the Salem Academy Auditorium. Theatre I is a class designed for beginners, and students with a greater interest in theatre may participate in Advanced Theatre or Theatrix courses.AthleticsIn addition to our superb arts programs, we offer 13 interscholastic teams competing in ten sports. 87 percent of Academy students play a JV or varsity sport.

Summary: Our college acceptance rate for seniors is 100 percent, and our students out-perform a majority of high school students on the College Board's AP exams. 14 Salem Academy seniors have been awarded the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship for study at UNC-Chapel Hill since the Morehead-Cain Foundation began accepting female applicants in 1975. Thanks to our dual enrollment program through our sister institution, Salem College, Academy students can graduate with 14-plus hours of college credit.In 2018, Academy seniors earned $3.2 million in college merit scholarships, an average of $79,000 per student.
