Stoneleigh-Burnham School, founded in 1869, is a girl’s boarding and day school nestled in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. Educating girls grades 7-12 on its beautiful 100-acre campus, the School inspires its students to value intellectual curiosity, to embrace diversity and to act with integrity.
Stoneleigh-Burnham offers an array of challenging academic courses that launch students into focused study and leadership to prepare them for college and beyond. Now the only girls’ school in New England to become an International Baccalaureate World School offering the IB Diploma, Stoneleigh-Burnham will raise its expectations for global awareness to another level as it positions itself to provide the best of 21st century learning.
Additionally, Stoneleigh-Burnham provides opportunities outside the classroom for a well-rounded educational experience. These include athletic pursuits, numerous clubs and after-school activities as well as nationally recognized equestrian, debate and performing arts programs.
Stoneleigh-Burnham’s Equestrian Program provides riders of all levels quality instruction in Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation, Dressage and Combined Training. Facilities include an indoor riding complex, outdoor sand rings, a European-style Derby Field and a cross-country course.
The School’s Debate and Public Speaking Society encourages students to articulate ideas with power and clarity. Members participate in public speaking tournaments, planned cross-examination debates, extemporaneous debates, Lincoln-Douglas debates and parliamentary debates.
Stoneleigh-Burnham’s Arts curriculum fosters success in individual creativity. Students participate in a rich and extensive array of courses in Instrumental Performance, Studio Art, Vocal Music, Music Composition, Dance and Theatre.
Girls develop best when they are in a community that knows them and where they feel connected. At Stoneleigh-Burnham, students live in a safe and inspiring environment that allows them to take risks, find their strengths and gain confidence. Summary: The atmosphere is home-like and welcoming, and houseparents welcome students into their apartments for informal gatherings after study hall and on the weekends. The residential hallways are organized by grade. Houseparents are interspersed throughout, and student resident assistants are assigned to each hallway. Students can also spend time in the common rooms located on each hallway.

Summary: The friends you make here are one of the most rewarding aspects of attending Stoneleigh-Burnham School. Students come from all over the world and from throughout the United States to live and learn at Stoneleigh-Burnham. You will meet people from a variety of backgrounds and will get to know them through studying together, sharing fun times in the dorms, participating in the arts and athletics, and enjoying weekend trips and activities. Ask any of the School's over 5,000 alumnae what she remembers best about her experience at Stoneleigh-Burnham School and she will tell you it's the friends that she made here.Weekends are full of activities, from community service projects to dances with other area schools. A shuttle is provided on Friday and Saturday nights to take students into town to go out to eat, see a movie or do some shopping. Weekend activities have included trips to Boston and New York City; cultural events at area colleges; excursions to ski resorts, museums, and concerts; and dances with other schools.

Summary: Athletics are thoroughly integrated into our school’s educational program. Student-athletes at Stoneleigh-Burnham learn the value of teamwork and the lessons of athletic competition. Our motto is: “Win without boasting, lose without excuse!” Each student will find her place in our athletic program, from the advanced player to the novice. Every season provides an opportunity to acquire skills, experience leadership, and grow personally. At a small school like ours you are not only a part of the team, you make an immediate impact. With health and wellness the objective, we offer a range of athletics from interscholastic competition, to a fitness option, to activities girls can pursue for a lifetime. In particular, the dance department at the Stoneleigh-Burnham School is designed to aid girls in the development of kinesthetic intelligence and to provide opportunities for self-expression and communication. Through their courses, dancers build self-esteem and strength. With class offerings from the beginning to advanced and IB levels, girls discover that dance is an art form that links mind and body.
Summary: Stoneleigh-Burnham School prepares students for the challenges of college and for the choices they will make in their lives and careers in the years that follow. Throughout their time here, students are assisted in selecting courses and preparing for testing that will position them for admission to the colleges that suit them best. The college counselor works closely with the students, both in small groups and individually, to ensure that each student feels confident about having a good, balanced, and unique college list. Weekly forum sessions dedicated to college research (winter and spring of Junior year) and applications and essays (fall of Senior year) guarantee that every student understands her strengths and goals and feels well prepared to submit her college applications.

Based on campus, the programs make use of our outstanding facilities and are directed by Stoneleigh-Burnham faculty. Our summer offerings emphasize the development of confidence, the acquisition of skills, and the discovery of new talents and abilities. They adhere to the same high standards set at Stoneleigh-Burnham during the academic year. Students live in the dormitories with supervision from resident faculty and dorm parents.
