The Loomis Chaffee School advances the development of its students - mind, body, and spirit - through its rigorous academic programs, inclusive community, and emphasis on engaged citizenship. The school inspires, as its Founders intended, a commitment to the best self and the common good.

Loomis students are motivated, curious, and want to make a positive and immediate difference in the world. All our resources - curricular and extracurricular programs, faculty, and facilities - will empower you to leverage your educational experience for the greater good. Among those resources are three unique to Loomis interdisciplinary centers that will teach you how to identify problems worth solving, explore and evaluate potential solutions, and enact positive change in your local, national, and international communities.

1. The Norton Family Center for the Common Good provides the foundation for your growth as a citizen in a diverse democracy, fostering an active, engaged approach to citizenship. The center oversees the 9th grade Seminar in the Common Good, sponsors campus-wide Dialogues in the Common Good on social issues and world events, and funds a fellowship program for students seeking to make an impact in their local communities.

2. The Alvord Center for Global & Environmental Studies oversees the Global & Environmental Studies Certificate program, international education/travel programs, and environmental sustainability programs and fellowship opportunities.

3. The Pearse Hub for Innovation(PHI)provides inspiration, space, training, and support for innovation, idea incubation, and entrepreneurship. The PHI also sponsors the Innovation Trimester (I-Tri), an opportunity for selected students to spend a term outside their regular classes identifying and solving problems in the local greater Hartford region.

The faculty, staff, and students at Loomis invite you to learn more about our school and community. Schedule a visit today by calling 860.687.6400.

Summary: A Loomis education is built on the pillars of excellence and opportunity. We provide a rigorous academic environment where excellence is both modeled and expected, and we offer abundant opportunities for our students to nurture their intellectual curiosity.

Students can choose from more than 250 courses, including almost 60 on the advanced and college level, and take advantage of experiential learning programs through independent study (ISP), co-curricular projects, off-campus study, and international travel. The Office of Experiential Learning helps students identify programs right for them. And if a student's passion lies with global or environmental studies, our Global & Environmental Studies Certificate program is perfect choice.
