Job Description:
POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Nurse
Department: Health Center
Job Status: Full-time academic year (10-months): rotating schedule between days and evenings, weekends, and on-call hours.
Reports to: Director of Nursing

Miss Porter’s School seeks an experienced and empathetic health professional to serve as a full-time nurse. This position reports to the Director of Nursing and works in close collaboration with the part-time and per-diem nursing staff, APRN, Counseling Center, and Medical Director (as needed).

Responsibilities:
Provides nursing care to students in the Health Center according to standing orders and utilizing the nursing process for both acute and chronic conditions.
Performs health assessments and screenings for walk-in patients; independently triages patients by acuity.
Works collaboratively with the Director of Nursing, Medical Director, APRN, Director and Assistant Director of Counseling, and Athletic Trainer to coordinate care plans for students.
Observes and evaluates patient response to nursing care using clinical judgment and seeks assistance when a patient is not responding well to treatment.
Follows Health Center policy and procedure guidelines for admitting and discharging students to and from the infirmary.
Assists APRN and/or Medical Director during office visits.
Properly maintains medical records and documents.
Collaborates with outside providers and consultants to coordinate patient care, including scheduling appointments and drivers as needed.
Communicates with parents and school staff regarding student care plans as required and appropriate
Maintains confidentiality regarding the health information of students.
Works with the Director of Nursing to promote campus-wide health and wellness initiatives.
Administers prescribed medications and vaccinations to students.
Provides bedside care, including light meal preparation.
Updates documentation using electronic medical record.
Assists with linens and bedding changes between patients.
Performs administrative duties including, but not limited to: attendance, clearance letters, formal notes, charges to student accounts, faxing, calling in medications, scanning documents, etc.
Assists with the coordination of school-sponsored trips, including class retreats, international travel, and InterMission initatives.
Assists the Director of Nursing and Medical Director with the ongoing development and review of policies and procedures.
Participates in weekend and overnight on-call rotation.
Attends meetings as required.
Engages fully in school and community life.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Minimum of three years of nursing experience, preferably in a school setting or pediatrics.
Must hold a valid license as a Registered Nurse with the State of Connecticut.
Proficiency with technology, including, but not limited to, use of: electronic medical records, Google Suite applications, Excel, email communication.
Demonstrated commitment to serving a diverse student body and collaborating with a community that highly values equity and inclusion.
Eagerness to participate in ongoing professional development, especially as it relates to school health topics and issues of concern for adolescent girls.
Models appropriate behavior and a positive, resilient attitude for students.
