Summary: Our academic program is designed to instill a curiosity in learning.

Avon teachers are completely immersed in the community as dorm parents, coaches, and mentors. As a result, they really know their students. Our faculty forge meaningful relationships with students through a structured mentor program, and develop an understanding of how each student best learns and what he needs to excel.

As experts in their fields, teachers at Avon bring lessons to life and create compelling context for engaging class discussion. Creativity, innovation, and collaboration are taught by example through practical application, inquiry, and debate.

Summary: With hundreds of boarding students calling Avon Old Farms home, there is always something going on at Avon. Classes, sports, and extracurricular activities make up the majority of a student's schedule; however, there is also time to grab a milkshake from the Hawk's Nest and relax in the student center, make a run into town for dinner, shopping, or a movie, or take a trip to a neighboring school for a social event on the weekend.

Summary: Avon Old Farms is all about helping our students find balance: our campus leaders are varsity hockey players, members of our elite singing group The Riddlers, and monitors in the dorm.

At Avon, the arts are more than paint on a canvas, pixels on a screen, notes in the air, or chords in the hand – our boys experience a journey of creative discovery through personal programs allowing them to explore their undiscovered talents.

In the sports arena, Winged Beavers compete at the highest level. Our teams have won more than 30 league and New England championships combined over the last 15 years, and many of our athletes move on to compete for some of the nation’s foremost collegiate programs. At the same time, we ensure that an athletic experience is accessible to and enjoyed by all our students by offering more than 24 sub-varsity teams and intramural activities. The lessons learned on the field, court, or rink help boys understand what it means to contribute to something larger than themselves, and they mature in the process.

Summary: As a top college prep school in Connecticut for boys, we thoughtfully guide our students to identify and facilitate the right higher learning match.

An Avon student begins his college counseling process during sophomore year – setting expectations and goals early. By senior year, he is prepared to take the lead on this leg of his journey to adulthood. As a result, our students attend some of the world’s finest colleges and universities and go on to become highly successful during their post-secondary careers.

Quotes from Alumni

The relational learning that happens at Avon – knowing your teachers also as coaches and dorm heads – makes a strong impact on young men.

-Peter Reed, Class of 1988, Consultant, Insurance Practice Leader, Spencer Stuart

The small classes and the attentive teachers at Avon really brought out my confidence. Because of that, I went on to do well in college, found a great job, and went on to open my own company.

-Stewart Mather, Class of 1997, Founding Partner, The Mather Group

Summary: We understand the importance of year-round learning: Avon Old Farms was one of the first Independent Schools to offer online courses.

- AOF students can augment their current course of study in order to position themselves to enroll in more advanced, varied courses during the school year.

- AOF students will familiarize themselves with an online learning environment that will increasingly play a fundamental part of post-secondary school education.

- Students will not only reinforce concepts from previous course work, but also they will preview concepts from the course they are scheduled to take the following fall.
