Applewild School
Overview
Founded in 1957, Applewild School is a junior boarding (grades 5-9) and day (grades PS-9) school located an hour west of Boston. Our highly personalized boarding program offers students from the US and abroad the opportunity to live and learn together as they prepare for secondary school. Our 26-acre campus, surrounded by conservation land and residential neighborhoods, includes three playing fields, a cross country course, walking trails, and a sloping front lawn perfect for winter sledding. Eighteen junior boarding students reside in a newly renovated dorm featuring two beautiful common rooms, historic details, and bedroom suites. Three full-time faculty members reside in the dorm and additional faculty support the residential life programming through classes, activities, coaching, and supervision. The scale of our program affords our boarding students diverse opportunities for leadership and service within the school and local community. Graduates of Applewild are positioned for personal and academic success at their secondary schools. Ninety percent of our graduates earn admission to their first- or second-choice school. But most of all, Applewild students know who they are and understand what is possible for them as a result of their time here. Our students are able to attain this level of accomplishment through the School's focus on metacognition – the ability to think about one’s own thinking – throughout all our programs, which empowers students to understand who they are as learners and what they need to be successful. Our metacognitive approach, combined with strong academics, athletics, and arts allows each student to develop to their maximum potential.

Student Life
Set atop the hill, our dormitory provides a comfortable and safe residential experience. The dormitory is secured with a high-quality security system, and three dorm parents live in residence. Next to our soccer and lacrosse fields and adjacent to a network of wooded trails, this serene location offers students plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Afternoons and weekends feature pick-up games of basketball, ping pong, pool, and foosball. Dorm parents use the outdoor fire pit so everyone can enjoy a campfire and s'mores together. Students eat in the dining hall during the week and on weekends go to local restaurants as a group to sample different cuisines. On the weekends, students generally spend Saturday morning studying for the SSAT or TOEFL or catching up on homework. Weekend afternoons feature outings to local shopping, parks, museums, secondary schools, and athletic events. Applewild is located 30 minutes from Worcester (New England's second largest city) and 55 minutes from Boston. This location is convenient to all the best attractions the area has to offer.
