Buxton School
Overview
For almost 100 years, Buxton School has been educating students to be ethical and engaged citizens of the world. A progressive, all-gender boarding and day high school located in the beautiful Berkshire mountains of western Massachusetts, our school is centered around inquiry, community, and creativity. We take teenagers seriously—as thinkers, decision-makers, creators, and citizens. The school has long believed that a student’s entire lived experience is the most important aspect of their education; as a result, Buxton was designed (and continues) to provide an experience that helps young people grow as thinkers, community members, creators and do-ers. Through small, challenging seminar-style classes; multiple leadership opportunities; hands-on service to the community; a broad and deep arts program; a diverse student body; and an intentional living experience, Buxton students have a high-school experience that is smart, compelling, and long-lasting. Our students relish their time while they are here, and they leave Buxton ready to take on—and succeed—in college and in life.
Academics
Summary: At Buxton, education is what we give and it’s what we get. We believe that learning is universal, and is as based in experience as it is in the classroom. As a progressive, supportive and enriching preparatory school, we are tasked with providing a rich and varied academic and artistic program for our students. Small classes, dedicated and accessible teachers, a 4:1 student to faculty ratio, and classes that push the limits of what and how we think make up the core of the Buxton educational experience.

Graduates
Summary: During junior year, students pick a dedicated college advisor to help them through the admissions process. All college advisors also work in tandem with each other to learn from and leverage the experience of the entire faculty in the college admissions process. In the late fall, each college advisor presents the entire faculty with the final lists of college choices for their advisees, and the faculty develops a plan for the best possible outcomes.
