St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School
Overview
+(1).jpg)
You belong here. From the day you step onto our campus, you belong here. You'll feel it the first time you make a Chapel announcement about archery club and receive applause, when you brave the McCrory Hall stage to share your poetry and your schoolmates respond with a standing ovation, or when you make your first free throw and your faculty advisor leads the cheering. New members of our community quickly feel welcome and valued. Hone your mountain biking skills or learn to climb on a campus rated one of the most beautiful boarding schools in the South. Enjoy all of the cultural opportunities of living in a collegetown and take actual college courses (for free AND for credit). Learn to fly fish or to cook Korean food during our annual Winterim. Stop into a work period or the Learning Resources Center for one-to-one academic attention. SAS is going to welcome you, offer you new opportunities, expand your horizons, teach you to appreciate downtime, and prepare you to move into the world centered, prepared, and confident. At SAS, we challenge you to fulfill your greatest potential while helping you to cultivate a life of balance and joy.

Academics
Summary: Challenge. Balance. Joy. St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School is a private, co-educational, Episcopal, boarding and day college preparatory school serving 250 students in grades 6-12. We CHALLENGE our students to fulfill their greatest potential while helping them to cultivate lives of BALANCE and JOY. We LEARN, LIVE, and PLAY in COMMUNITY. CORE VALUES Good teaching inspires curiosity. Students deserve to have their individual needs met for both challenge and support. Depth has more value than breadth. Time outdoors is time well spent. Authentic narrative assessments are more useful than grades and standardized test scores. God calls us to be actively compassionate and to value what makes one another unique. The future will belong to creative, lifelong learners. POINTS OF PRIDE New members of our community quickly feel welcome and valued. Our intellectually, socially, and economically diverse student body blends well. We enjoy the educational, recreational, and creative opportunities provided by our beautiful campus. Our relationship with the University of the South provides extraordinary opportunities for our students. We foster a healthy balance between work and play. Our students are encouraged to formulate their own values and beliefs. Students find enduring mentors among our faculty and staff. Our graduates thrive in advanced college coursework, self-advocacy, and written communication.

Student Life
SAS students enjoy the peace, fun, and beauty of mountaintop campus with two lakes, incredible views, and 13 miles of trails. They enjoy the lectures and art scene of a college town. They also enjoy weekend trips to movies, shopping, and concerts in nearby Nashville and Chattanooga. Mostly, though, what they enjoy is each other. SAS is the center of activity for boarding AND day students. Weekends welcome everyone back on to campus for activities in the Union, sporting events, and more.
