St. Bernard Preparatory School
Overview
+(1).jpg)
Heir to the time-honored Benedictine tradition, Saint Bernard Preparatory School's mission as a Catholic, college preparatory, residential school is the cultivation of a love of learning and a life of virtue in young men and women within a community of faith and scholarship. Corpus, Mens, Spiritus (Body, Mind, Spirit). Sponsored by the Benedictine monks of St. Bernard Abbey, St. Bernard Preparatory School is a Catholic coed boarding and day school for grades 7-12. It is nestled in the rolling hills of north central Alabama on the 900 acres of St. Bernard Abbey. The environment is beautiful, serene and secure, wonderfully suited to academic pursuit, personal growth and healthy life. This happens through rigorous academics, a wide variety of athletics, and a broad array of extracurricular activities. St. Bernard is grounded in the 1,500 year tradition of Benedictine Monks, challenging each student to become a well-rounded and community-oriented individual delighting in what is true, good and beautiful. This development prepares our students to excel in the college environment and in all of life. Graduating classes typically are offered over $3 million in scholarship offerings per 25 students. The school is less than an hour's drive from two major airports, one in the city of Birmingham, another in Huntsville, home to NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and the Marshall Space Flight Center. Atlanta, Georgia is a 3 hour drive and Nashville, Tennessee about 2 hours.

Academics
Summary: The purpose of St. Bernard Preparatory School is to help students become fully alive intellectually, physically and spiritually. Administered by the Benedictine Monks of St. Bernard Abbey, the school offers its students, grades 7-12, an environment rich in tradition and prepared to meet the present and future. The curriculum is based on the liberal arts: languages and literature, history, mathematics, science, theology, and the arts. This program emphasizes the ability to think, to read with understanding, to express oneself with precision and grace, and to solve problems creatively. Courses not only provide the transmission and reception of pertinent facts; they encourage the development of mental and physical discipline, of breadth and depth of view, of responsible thought and action, and of critical thinking.
