Trinity-Pawling School
Overview

At Trinity-Pawling, we believe that learning happens best when it happens in community. We have created a safe, adaptable environment and reopening plan that allows our students to be on campus in measures that are compatible with the health and safety demands associated with COVID-19. The goal of a Trinity-Pawling education is to unlock the potential for greatness that exists in each boy. The School pursues this goal through a vigorous learning environment that emphasizes 21st-century skills such as innovation, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. A commitment to project-based and experiential learning acknowledges the research that has been proven to be successful for boys. An authentic camaraderie of “brotherhood” and a "family" of educators and students are dedicated to building a culture of honor. The Trinity-Pawling learning experience combines a timeless commitment to character with a dedication to prepare young men for an ever-changing world. One of the School’s most distinctive attributes is its signatory Effort System, which began 50 years ago. Each boy at Trinity-Pawling is recognized and assessed for the effort he devotes to a given endeavor: academics, athletics, dormitory responsibilities, civic engagement, attendance, and extracurricular programs. The learning objective inherent in this ethos of effort is to teach young men that the more they invest in themselves the greater their achievements will be. Trinity-Pawling offers over 100 academic courses and 16 AP courses, interscholastic competition in 12 sports within the highly competitive New England Founders League, and a myriad of extracurricular activities.
Academics
Summary: Get ready for dynamic classes—you’ll work in teams to find solutions, stretch your mind with vigorous discussions, and explore beyond the textbook with hands-on experiments. Our teachers are passionate about their subject matter and generous with their time, and they’ll push you to become fearless leaders and humble team players. You’ll have your pick of exciting and challenging classes, including honors-level and Advanced Placement courses. And our college counseling team is ready to find the best college fit. At Trinity-Pawling, we're known for the Effort System, but our belief in effort goes much deeper than that. It's the way we think — and how we live. We believe all great accomplishments begin with perseverance in the face of challenges. In the end, effort is how we measure ourselves, not only as students, but also as athletes, brothers, and school-citizens. Trinity-Pawling also offers an exceptional program for boys with language-based learning issues. The School’s Center for Learning Achievement recognizes the potential in each and every one of these students. For over 45 years, this signature program and individualized academic support have been providing an environment where students are transformed — achieving their academic goals in ways they never expected, finding their confidence, and preparing for their futures.

Trinity-Pawling is a boys' school not because single sex education is our mission, but because single sex education helps us accomplish our mission. We want to provide an environment where boys are encouraged to push themselves and explore their gifts and talents in all phases of life on campus, free from the pressures and distractions that are unavoidable in the context of a coed school. A few years ago, this approach to teaching was controversial. No longer. Today, expert after expert is acknowledging the fact that America's school culture puts boys at a disadvantage. Today, a growing chorus praises the unique opportunities boys' schools provide.

Arts & Athletics
Summary: ATHLETICS: At Trinity-Pawling, sports are for everyone. We play to stay fit and have fun. But sports have even bigger lessons to teach us: about success and failure; leadership and sacrifice; how to find serious stamina and resilience within yourself. Guided by some of the best coaches in New England, we strive to become true scholar-athletes — by our skill and also by who we are as people. In the end, we display the full measure of our character on the field, the court, the track — wherever we compete. FALL 2020 ATHLETIC UPDATE: In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and after many discussions prioritizing community health, safety, and well-being, the Founders League has unanimously, and with great regret, decided to cancel all Founders League interscholastic competition for the 2020 Fall season. ARTS: Whether you’re a seasoned artist or newly creative, we’ll introduce you to a variety of art forms so you can discover and nurture your passions. We believe that cultivating self-expression builds confidence and focus, which is why art classes are central to our curriculum. You’ll take at least one year of music, theater, visual arts, art history, or music appreciation, with the opportunity to continue on to advanced-level classes. Your instructors are teachers and accomplished professional artists who are active in their fields. You’ll learn from the best, and you’ll do it in our Gardiner Arts Center, a showpiece in itself, which houses a 400-seat theater, rehearsal spaces, practice rooms, a dark room, and art studios.
